3.5 Jennifer Armentrout is so good at spinning a tale and creating tension. But I may have outgrown this series. I will still read the last book so that I can see how it all pans out. :)
I think I had a strange relationship with this series because I listened to it on audible, so the characters seemed more real. It's one of those things that's hard to put my finger on -- possibly I grew to like the trilogy because I spent so much time with these flawed, potty-mouthed people. I don't regret getting to know them and have that feeling that something's missing now that they're "gone."
Wow. I don't think it is possible for Hosseini to write a bad book. This particular book was not as riveting as his other two huge best sellers, but the writing was equally great, if not better. I found myself re-reading the sentences and thinking, "I could never do that." I have to admit that I took notes while reading this because there were a zillion characters who sometimes would reappear out of nowhere. I loved how most of the characters were woven together in a beautiful and not-so-pretty quilt-like way. I think Hosseini has such a gift with words. This third book makes me want to go pick up and revisit The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns so that I can remember what good writing looks like.
This was one of those well-written books that was just not fun to read (for me). I kept thinking, "Do I love it or hate it?" It was kind of like a train wreck -- not in the plot or story telling but in the topic -- in that I could not look away. I had to get to the end to see how the craziness played out. Definitely unlike anything I have read before. Something that I enjoyed was reading a stand-alone book for a change. Everything seems to be spread out over at least three books nowadays.
cute cinderella-y book for me to listen to while I carted the kids around. they didn't hear the whole thing but still enjoyed what they listened to.
3.5 good start to a creepy, unique vampire world. I read it because I hear that the 2nd book is even better!
I really had a good start with this book but once I finished it, I felt like I had to reread it, but not in a good way. The format of the novel was confusing for me and when it switched back and forth between past and present, the story wasn't holding my attention enough so that I knew what was going on. I constantly had to flip back to the previous part to get my bearings.
I can see why others found the ending to the trilogy to be unsatisfying. I think Lauren Oliver was trying to please everyone with her finale in leaving the ending a bit open-ended. I don't mind making my own conclusions. It kind of reminded me of the Unearthly love triangle since both choices were good ones. Overall a good trilogy that I enjoyed the whole way through.
Steamy, crazy book. I really liked the twist and the protagonist -- or is he an antagonist? -- was crazy. Loved it...until he got soft and mushy near the end. Oh well. I am still on pins and needles waiting for book 2 to come out. :)
Really great sequel without the second book syndrome but the ending was just too stinky. The world building, action, character development and tension in this book was leading me up to 5 stars until the author left me hanging like that. Sheesh. But I will definitely be looking forward to seeing what happens to Day and June. next. year. :[
